The Plodders – Yearly Round-Up
As the year comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on what has been another meaningful year for the Plodders running club.
This year was marked by a fantastic Couch to 5K journey, with many members committing to the programme and achieving something that once felt out of reach. From those first cautious intervals to confidently completing 5K, the determination and resilience shown by our runners has been inspiring. Every finish—no matter the pace—was a win.
Like any club, we saw some changes along the way. Sadly, a few members moved on this year, and they will always be part of the Plodders story. We wish them well in whatever their next chapter brings and thank them for the time, effort, and positivity they shared with the group.
At the same time, we were delighted to welcome new members, many of whom joined through C25K and quickly became part of the Plodders family. Fresh faces brought new energy, encouragement, and reminders of just how powerful those first running steps can be.
Throughout the year, the club continued to stand for what matters most:
- Support over speed
- Progress over perfection
- Community over competition
Rainy nights, tough runs, laughter, encouragement, and shared achievements all helped make this year special. The Plodders proved once again that turning up and sticking together is what really counts.
As we look ahead to the coming year, we do so with pride in how far we’ve come and excitement for what’s next—more goals, more growth, and more miles plodded together.

Here’s to another year of running, supporting one another, and proving that anyone can do it—one step at a time.

๐โ๏ธ Trail Triumph at Leonardslee: Celebrating Local Heroes of the 5K & 10K! ๐โ๏ธ
The winding paths, steep woodland climbs, and iconic lakeside trails of Leonardslee Gardens set the perfect stage for an unforgettable challenge — and what a day it was! This weekend, four determined runners took on the stunning yet demanding Leonardslee Gardens 5K and 10K Trail Run, pushing their limits and crossing the finish line with heart, grit, and smiles.
Today, we proudly celebrate Gillian, Richard, Caroline, and Kerry for their outstanding achievements!
๐ฟ A Course Like No Other
Leonardslee’s trails are known for their breathtaking views — and equally breathtaking hills. From narrow forest routes to sweeping garden paths, every step is a test of balance, stamina, and courage. But despite the mud, the elevation, and the unpredictable twists of trail running, our runners rose to the occasion.
๐ More Than Just a Race
Completing a trail run is more than collecting a medal — it's a journey. It’s the early mornings, the training miles, the muddy trainers, and the mental battles. It’s choosing to keep going when the hill keeps rising.
For Gillian, Richard, Caroline, and Kerry, crossing that finish line represents dedication, discipline, and a well-earned triumph.
๐ A Huge Round of Applause
To our runners: You did it. Through forest trails, over rolling terrain, and along stunning garden paths, you proved what’s possible when passion meets perseverance.
Congratulations on completing the Leonardslee Gardens 5K and 10K Trail Run!
We’re proud, inspired, and excited to see where your running journey takes you next.
๐ Plodders on Tour – Awayday Runs! ๐โ๏ธ๐โ๏ธ
The Promenade Plodders are taking our running shoes on the road! Once a month, we’ve got some exciting awayday runs planned – a great chance to explore new routes, enjoy different scenery, and of course, share a post-run cuppa together.
Whether you’re a seasoned Plodder or just fancy a change of pace, these awaydays are the perfect opportunity to run, laugh, and make memories in new locations.
๐
Upcoming Awayday Runs:
There are no more events planned for the rest of 2025, but the excitement doesn’t stop here. We’re already looking ahead to next year’s adventures and can’t wait to see what new routes and surprises Matt and the team have in store for us. So, be sure to keep an eye out for updates as we prepare for another year of unforgettable Plodders experiences.
๐ก Top tip: Bring your usual running kit, plenty of smiles, and maybe a camera – we want to capture these adventures!
Let’s make these awayday runs as fun and memorable as our home sessions. We can’t wait to see you there.
Some background information about Promenade Plodders.
Plodders was discussed and developed by 6 initial members. Chris, David, Matthew, Ben, Jamie and Wayne, since then in the last 6 years we have lost Chris, Ben and Wayne. But with losing them we have gained a new core member, Kelly.
We started the club with the idea we could help and encourage runners of all abilities, which we think we have achieved over these years.
The club prides itself on being there at the beginning of a runners journeys and helping them complete there running journeys.
No matter of your ability a plodder will always be at the start to support a fellow member and there will always be someone there at the end cheering you on.
We started the club running on a Sunday and Tuesday evening leaving the **Waverley** at 6.30pm running 20 minutes along the prom and 20 minutes back all starting and finishing at the same time.
This format still applies, although we have now changed locations, on Tuesday we now meet at **The Dog and Duck** at 6:30pm and Sundays we meet at **West Park** at 09:45 we have also added monthly away days.
If you ever need some advice, please reach out to one of the core members who will help to the best of their abilities.
We now have a Web page which is constantly updated and we hope this will get the club some further recognition.
Our club is free to join fully insured and extremely friendly. Please feel free to get in touch or come along on a.... Tuesday at 6.30PM meeting at The Dog and Duck or Sunday at 9.45 meeting at West Park Car Park.
